Uptake and release of chromium and nickel by Vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty)

Abstract The effectiveness of using Vetiver grass ( Chrysopogon zizanioides ) in phytoremediation wastewater has been proven. In this study, the potential C. planted Cr- and Ni-contaminated soil was evaluated through investigating behaviors on uptake release metals. Three treatments: control, Cr, Ni, with three concentrations (50, 150, 300 ppm), were applied. is assessed by determination metal rate, bioconcentration factor (BCF), biological absorption coefficient (BAC), translocation (TF). experiment showed that Cr higher than rate other hand low Ni. Accumulation Ni 167.8 mg kg ?1 66.3 , respectively. Excess absorbed high making vetiver suitable for phytoremediation. During 28-day periods, it found BCF, BAC, TF values some treatments greater 1 (one) Ni-treated plants able to translocate aerial plant parts supported its value. Low acidity causes solubility mobility metals, resulting absorption. shown as a heavy metal-tolerant species could be potentially used alternative at least lightly polluted areas.
